The exit · Fintech
Hayat Amin, Head of Finance. Covered on TechCrunch.
Cake was a UK fintech where people managed money, split bills and spent their own Cake credit currency. Hayat ran finance from the early stage.
He modelled the economics of a real payment product: the transaction flows, the processing cost, and the price of the credit currency itself.
When American Express came to the table, he led diligence and sat in the negotiation. The model, IP and data valuation he built defended a materially higher exit price.
After close he ran the integration of reporting and controls, and the KPI culture he embedded had already lifted operational performance 23% before the deal.
The IP and the data were priced separately, not given away inside a revenue multiple. That is where the extra price came from.
